Mainly because we will be going to a beach destination in a couple of months, and we don't want to feel uncomfortable in swimsuits around our friends. That's why we decided to join a gym a few months ago. We are also trying to cut down on the bad food intake, and so far we have done pretty well. I mean I haven't even seen the outside of an In 'n' Out in a couple of weeks!
Now the biggest challenge that I've always faced is that I'll typically either exercise OR eat healthy. For some reason, I've never been able to do both properly. If I work out, it seems my body craves pounds and pounds of pasta, burgers, fries and Hot Cheetos. If I eat healthy, I feel brittle and weak because I wake up early and just don't seem to have the energy to work out after a long ass day at the daytime job (yep- I have one of those too.) The happy medium we've been able to accomplish after three years of trying to be healthy is eating healthier snacks while also working out. The difference is that I'm not juicing, drinking smoothies and eating carrots for dinner every single day but I'm not eating burgers and fries every day either. I'm taking more consideration into the snacks I'm eating, and only eating truly bad food during my travels...because we've all got to live a little more when we explore new places!
Because I've been in this healthy phase, I wanted to share my favorite new bars that all of you healthy (or not so healthy) folks will love. These taste fantastic and they make me feel like I'm having a dessert. I can't even tell that I'm eating something that's vegan, wheat free, dairy free, gluten free, non GMO, kosher and free from all added sugars or syrups!
These bars are made of fruit and nuts squished together to create a delicious concoction whose every bite is scrumptious. Now the real exciting part is when I can share something blogging related with my boyfriend. I received this sampler pack from Natural Balance Foods, and the Mr happily helped me taste test most of these...his verdict was that these were some of the best bars he's ever tried and he has tried quite a lot of these bars over the years. He was vegan for a short period and most of his snacks involved vegan fruit and nuts bars so he's really had the experience of testing out the competition for these. I truthfully don't think any other bar can compete because these not only taste amazing, they also make me feel great and they're filling. There are two main types of bars - you've got the fruit and nut bars alongside the crunch bars.
The sampler pack includes the following flavors:
fruit and nut bar flavors
Rhubarb & Custard | Caffe Mocha | Cocoa Orange | Cashew Cookie | Pecan Pie | Berry Delight | Cocoa Mint | Ginger Bread | Cocoa Delight
Apple Crunch | Strawberry Crunch | Banana Crunch | Cocoa Crunch
The cocoa mint tasted like a dark chocolate thin mint so needless to say that is one delicious bar. It was also quite hearty. I have to be honest and tell you that while the strawberry and cocoa crunch were awesome, I really didn't care for the banana crunch mainly because it reminded me too much of banana flavored candy. While I like banana in my smoothies and I enjoy bananas as a fruit, I don't like banana flavored anything so go figure. The rhubarb and custard was also quite tasty, with caffe mocha being quite possibly the best bar I've ever had. Cashew cookie was hearty, yet still dessert-like and tasty. That one required a bit of struggle from my boyfriend. He devoured the pecan pie, and I annihilated the berry delight. There's a few more waiting for us, but so far they've all been so good!
Which flavor would you try first?
