Tulum | Cancun Travel Diaries

One of my favorite day adventures was driving to Tulum and exploring the Mayan ruins.

From the ocean to the ruins to the sky, everything was just so breathtaking. If you're staying in the Cancun area, it'll be about an hour and a half drive to Tulum so make sure to pack some snacks and have a playlist. I would recommend wearing your bathing suit, because you will be tempted to jump in the water. Especially if it's a hot, sunny day like it was for us. I'd also recommend bringing water and an extra set of clothes because you will most likely sweat your brains out while walking through the ruins. The shade of the trees was our saving grace.

Make sure to keep your eye out for these guys. They're indigenous to the area, and they may slip into your beach bag if you're not paying close attention. They're used to being fed by the tourists so they'll stare you down for quite some time and they'll run off if they don't think you're going to dish out some snacks. Quite entertaining and super cool.

After our exploration through the ruins and some beach time, we went to a local mezcaleria. We ordered some delicious ceviche, guacamole, a couple of tequila shots, some tacos and even a few piƱa coladas. All in all it was a successful day, and it was a great experience seeing the ruins.

Have you ever been to Tulum?
