Why Travel is Good for the Soul
One of my favorite things about traveling to new places is meeting new people in new places and hearing their story. This in turn helps inspire me to do something better in my own. There’s so many stories from strangers I’ve met throughout my travels, that have helped to positively affect me in some way. Beyond just people, there are a plethora of amazing things that happen when you travel. Remember that time a nice woman lent you 50 cents in Portugal, so you could use the bathroom in the gift shop you were in? Or the time someone assumed you spoke a language you didn't and you stared at them in amazement? So many of those experiences are authentic, and cannot be bought or gotten any other way. Travel is a must because of the enrichment it has on you as a person.
These are just a few ways in which travel inspires me:
Meet people with different backgrounds.
Learn about new cultures.
Try unique local food.
Have new experiences.
Listen to new languages.
Experience a different way of life.
Feel the climate.
The reason I'm writing about enrichment when it comes to travel is because I am currently road tripping through New England with my boyfriend. So far it's been an incredible trip, and nothing short of amazing. We've had some awesome experiences, and become closer yet again through getting another trip under our belts. What I mean with all this madness is that travel inspires me to be the best version of myself. I stick up for what I believe in, I don't let bullies get away, I take life's opportunities and turn them into great things every chance I can. All this is coming from an everyday girl who likes her craft IPA after a long day at work. There’s nothing different about me, but it is what I decided to make of myself. One of the toughest things for many is to determine when they want to take matters into their own hands and do all those things they don’t want to, in order to get where they do want to go. Every time I travel, I realize how much more enriched my life feels and how much I've learned. It's almost like I've calmed down enough to go work hard, because I truly do shut off nowadays when I go on vacation. There is no point at staying connected the entire time for no reason. Take your PTO (paid time off) and go on a trip you've planned to explore a place that gives you that enrichment.
Why am I telling you this story? Lately I’ve been feeling luckier than I could have ever imagined. I came to the United States with some change (as in quarters and dimes) and two parents who didn’t speak English. When we originally got here, my family was in debt due to the cost of the flights. Nowadays, I am exploring new places because of my day job and also because of the blog, and it has changed my life. I have seen life through new eyes, and through varying viewpoints, and it is so refreshing to have multiple perspectives. While I know not everyone can afford to travel, or it doesn't make sense logistically, do your best to get away and try to travel to a new place where you can experience new things and enjoy your time away from daily responsibilities.
