Japanese Skincare & Beauty Product Review: Ninjaya's Top Brands

This post is in collaboration with and sponsored by Ninjaya.com. In this particular post, I am sharing an entire skincare line made with rice bran. Rice-bran-based skincare products from the Bijin Nuka, a Japanese brand from Kobe, with a history of more than 120 years. Japanese rice bran, also known as komenuka, is definitely known for its skin soothing enzymes and antioxidant properties.

Komenuka is rich in anti-oxidants and nourishing moisturizers. It's a great source of vitamins A, B2, B12 and E. Rice bran helps to get you that smooth and glowy skin, which is the best.

Junmai Plus Uruoi Oil (Beauty Oil)

This beauty oil is made of rice squalane, plant-based squalane, rice bran oil and rice germ oil. When it comes to the ingredients, there's a lot of background that makes the product even more unique. For example, only 4 grams of rice squalane can be acquired from a ton of brown rice. Squalane is super helpful with keeping skin hydrated. It's a common fact that as we age, our skin loses moisture. For some of us, depending on the climates we live in, we need more moisture than others. Since I live in the desert, I need that moisture quite often throughout the year because we live in such a dry climate. The dry heat and the dry environment sucks all the moisture out of my skin.

One thing that many people ask me continuously is if someone with oily or combination skin should use a beauty oil. The answer is yes. Keep in mind I'm not a doctor or a dermatologist, so I can only give you advice based on what I've learned. However, I used to have oily skin and I had the same philosophy. Why would I add oil to my face when my skin is already so incredibly oily!? The truth is, your skin produces oil that you don't want to have because it's typically greasy. The oil you put on your skin from various skincare products is oil your skin does want. I've certainly been enjoying this oil, and I think it's a great option for those of us who need a bit more hydration in our lives.

Kobe Bijin Nuka Honpo: Bijin Nuka Soap

This soap is very moisturizing and does not irritate the skin. I use it every single day. It smells fresh, but not overpowering, which is important to me.  You know I am sensitive to smells, and this suits me. Made with rice bran, it is very effective at bringing out that soft luscious skin we all crave. Kobe Bijin Nuka Honpo: Bijin Nuka Skincare Lotion

This is one of the lightest moisturizers I've ever had the pleasure of using on my skin. It's extremely lightweight and blends into the skin easily. After using this for a few weeks, I feel like this is hydrating enough without causing breakouts. It is hydrating and doesn't dry my skin out quickly.

Kobe Bijin Nuka Honpo: Bijin Nuka Milky Lotion

Similar to the last lotion, this one is also hydrating but I'll admit I prefer this lotion to the last. If you've been around for a while, you know that texture is something I'm really particular about when it comes to food and skincare. The texture of this lotion is a bit thicker and just sits better on the skin, almost like a primer and pore filler. If you try one product from this line, this is the one I can't recommend enough to you!

Kobe Bijin Nuka Honpo: Bijin Nuka Serum

This rice bran serum is a combination of hyaluronic acid and rice bran water which has an extremely moisturizing effect. Serums are actually one of my favorite products because they give your skin necessary nutrients. They're usually applied after cleansing, but before moisturizing because the serum needs to be in direct contact with the skin. Once you apply, those ingredients go directly into the skin.  Serums also add a lot of moisture to the skin as well, and this serum is no different.

Now that I’ve told you about one Japanese skincare trend (rice bran) I also wanted to touch on hot spring and algae products too. In my YouTube video summarizing hot spring skincare products, Saravio Cosmetics kills it with their incredibly lightweight and easily blendable product. The idea behind their product is the use of hot spring algae extracts with other hot-spring-derived ingredients in the products. RG92, a type of algae that resides in hot springs ( and the reason Saravio Cosmetics received the Japan Venture Awards 2015) is the most successful hot-spring-derived ingredient.

RG92 All-in-One-Gel

I love the light scent of Saravio Cosmetics and all of the products absorbed into the skin so well, and made my skin look softer and more luminous. My favorite product from this collection is the RG92 All-in-One-Gel and that fact that it’s a serum, balancing lotion and moisturizer. When a product has many uses and versatility, I can justify any cost for it because I can use it for multiple things. See my logic, there? When it comes to this particular gel, it genuinely helps with my skin’s moisture levels (increasing them significantly) and helps to clear up dark spots on the skin. Every time I use a product, I hope it can help lighten my skin from sun spots, dark spots and other irritated skin.

Arujino Hitosen Lotion

Next up, the Arujino Hitosen Lotion contains RG92, giving this the same effects as the All-in-One Gel. Only this lotion is a spray meaning it’s easier to get all over the body. I love spraying this and getting my skin nice and hydrated. Because it's easy to use and very effective, I can use it regularly without the hassle of trying to get hard to reach places.

M-1 Dandy Shaving Gel

Finally the M-1 Dandy Shaving Gel gives a nice, clean shave. It lathers easily and feels quite nice on the skin. While this is a shaving gel, it can be used as a lotion, serum and moisturizing cream. I'm all about those multi-tasking products!
