The Skinny Confidential Made me Do It
After my recent Instagram rant about how brands are not picking influencers properly for press trips and brand collaborations, I realized there's one influencer in the space that inspires me daily, is just as obnoxious as me and cuts the bullshit. Her collaborations, her content and her team not only work hard to create amazing content, but they know their shit. Lauryn Evarts Bosstick. Most of you know her as The Skinny Confidential. Over the past five years, Lauryn has been a source of inspiration for me. Lauryn is a badass who has built an entire empire with her husband. What started as a blog, is now a podcast, YouTube channel, book, fitness plan, newsletter... the list goes on and on. Can you tell I listen to the podcast every week? I can introduce the two of them myself, haha!
Ok, so what's the point of this post? I'm not here to kiss anyone's ass but I am here to tell you that what Lauryn has been throwing down lately... well I've been picking it up. My wallet is not happy, but my body and brain are. What did she make me do? Let's dive in.
Remember that post that shocked you? The one about how to have better sex? That was inspired by Woo for Play, something Michael Bosstick (Lauryn's husband) created with his business partner. It's a lube. Yeeeep, you heard that right. We're talking about lube. The ingredients are simple. Coconut oil, vanilla essence, beeswax and a little stevia. These ingredients combined together help reduce bacteria, enhance the mood and sex drive (because who doesn't want to have that mood enhanced!?) This formulation is the best one I've tried, and I love the consistency. It's not slimy and slippery, like many lubes are. It smells and tastes wonderful.
Next up is a skincare item. If you didn't know, I'm a skincare fanatic. I slather on at least 10 products a day, and I test out another 5-10 throughout the week. When the TSC podcast had Dr. Dennis Gross as the guest, I had to give him a go. I made the purchase of the Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel.
This is a daily peel that's pre-soaked towelettes. There's 2 pads for each day. You apply the first pad to the skin, and rub it for at least a minute. It's best to rub the pad gently throughout the skin until the pad is somewhat dry. These peels help with uneven skin tone, texture and larger pores. After using this a few days in a row, the skin looks bright, glowy with smaller pores and hydrated skin. I wouldn't recommend the extra strength peel pads if you haven't tried the daily peel because these can definitely be too strong for the skin if you go too hard too quickly. Your skin needs to work its way to extra-strength, and I think I'm a ways away from those myself.
As you can imagine, a peel is supposed to "peel" the skin. Usually this will peel off the dead skin, but sometimes it can dry the skin. This is why it's important to stick to the least aggressive peel pad initially so your skin can work its strength up to the higher strengths.
The Skinny Confidential Book is something I actually never envisioned buying because I do not read as much as I once did. This is kind of embarrassing, but I was the "Reader Leader" in elementary school because I read the most pages each week. Anyway, long story short, this book is amazing. Full of life advice, fashion tips, recipes, nutrition advice, as well as the best writing from an amazing personality. You know when you feel like you kind of know someone? Then when you read their writing, you laugh along with the jokes they put out there. Reminds me of one of Jim Gaffigan's books, and I just howled the entire time I read the book. When you imagine someone saying something funny, reading it is similar.
It's been a great read on all the flights I've been on recently. Between this book and the podcasts, I am full-on TSC and I love it.
Now, buying this next item was a complete shock. If you know anything about me, you know I despise mushrooms. To my very core. My parents tried to get me to eat them for 18 years. When I went to college, I started getting acquainted with lots of other vegetables. Mushrooms were just not for me, and honestly, my dislike for them developed more and more over time. The smell makes me gag and I always scrunch my nose when I smell them being grilled. I don't like any food with them in the mixture (i.e. chicken lettuce wraps from Pei Wei; come on guys can we get NO schrooms!?) and honestly they're just gross in texture. End of story.
This is where the power of TSC influence comes into play, because never in a million years did I think I wanted anything related to mushrooms, in my body. However after listening to the podcast about Four Sigmatic, I knew I had to give them a go. They're not mushroom supplements, but they have mushroom coffee, mushroom elixirs (among other products.) It's an amazing mix of goodies that are mushroom based, and the best part is that they don't taste like mushrooms at all.
What I've come to learn is that mushrooms are one of the most beneficial supplements and elixirs you could put into your body. The various mushroom types are crucial to various health factors, like gut health, mental clarity, focus and so much more. There's just such a wide range of benefits when it comes to mushrooms, and I am so thankful I now understand their benefit and can apply them to my life, without ever tasting a mushroom. There's still disgusting in the typical food setting, but if I can get them in a powder that tastes like coffee or put a powdery mix of it in my smoothie, I am all in. We spent almost $100 getting several different goodies to test out. From the coffee mix, the daytime elixir, night time elixir and then the mushroom coffee, we got a wide range to test out!
The final thing that I've been engrossed in recently is the brand new Blog Doo handbook. While I consider myself a blogging expert and a professional blogger, there's always so much more I can learn from other bloggers and professionals. I don't have all the answers. No person in any field ever does. We learn so much from one another, and it's important to learn in that way because knowledge is sometimes found in others. Therefore, while I knew a lot of the information in the book would be repeat information for me, I was surprised by the incredible perspective I was given by reading through the various sections.
I can't tell you how many times people have asked me for advice and questions about blogging. "How do I make money overnight? What platform do I use? How often should I blog?" The list goes on and on. Now you can check it all out in this eBook and get your blog going. It will help you take that blog or social media business to the next level. It's not everyone's goal to blog full-time, but if it's yours, this is one of the best resources for you.
