6 Summer Beauty Tips
A Few Steps to your Perfect Summer Skin
Layer on the SPF
Whether it's summer or not, if you know anything about me, you know I'm a sunscreen queen. I have 3 sunscreens in my bag at any given moment, because I don't play games with the sun. Not me.
I know that at some point of every single day, I'll have to go outside, whether it's to grab the mail, take out the trash, sit by a window, and so forth. Why would I risk any sun damage to the skin I am constantly dousing with products to make it healthier, smoother and softer? It's way better to be totally protected from the sun's scorching rays. which is why I like to apply multiple layers of sun protection. The more the merrier I always say.
Once I've cleansed, toned and applied my vitamin C each morning, I move on and apply a hydrating moisturizer (like the Fresh Deep Hydration Rose Face Cream). Even if you'll be sweating, you still want to douse your skin in hydration before you step outside.
EltaMD UV Daily Broad-Spectrum, with SPF 40, has zinc oxide which helps reflect those sun rays off your face and back into the universe. Most sunscreen does NOT have zinc oxide but if you want to not only allow sunburn but also reflect the rays off your skin, you need to find a sunscreen with this ingredient. Without it, your skin may not be getting burned but it is still absorbing the rays which will cause premature aging, fine lines, sun spots and everything else you don't want happening to your beautiful skin.
Less is More.
Since summer is hot and humid, I don't like to load on too much makeup. That's why I tend to stay away from heavy foundations because let's be honest, I'll sweat it off too quickly. Not to mention the heavier ones cause weird streaks, which are not cute.
That's why I’ve been opting to use the Boscia Skin Perfecting BB Cream Broad Spectrum, in the shade Venice, which has additional SPF 30. This way I've got the Elta MD zinc oxide and this BB cream has that SPF protection on top. This BB cream is hydrating and keeps my skin looking fresh, all day.
Say Goodbye to Raccoon Eyes
My favorite mascara for years has been the original Better Than Sex because it really makes your lashes pop. For summer time, you want to ensure you don't end up with raccoon eyes, so I'm loving the Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara which is perfect for time by the pool, beach or lake this summer.
Hydration is King
Since I love a good facial mist, I tend to combine a few things into one. Currently, I've been using two facial sprays. The Pixi Beauty Hydrating Milky Mist is perfect for a quick hydration boost throughout the day, and I also love to do a spritz of the Kiehl's Cactus Flower & Tibetan Ginseng Hydrating Mist, which smells absolutely incredible. Since this Kiehl's version comes in a smaller size (2.5 fl oz.) it's perfect to carry on the go and for those summer travels. As the day gets hot, I simply reapply the facial mist to cool off my face and freshen up my makeup, or give my face a refresh on the plane because that airplane air tends to suck the moisture right out of our skin.
Once the skin is taken care of, I like to make sure my hands and lips are hydrated.
Show Your Lips Some Love
No one likes dry lips, so I opt for something that's super hydrating, silky and has a slightly creamy consistency. The Butterstick Lip Treatment from Kiehl's, with SPF 30, has some color payoff, and a serious boost of hydration to the lips. The La Mer Lip Balm is another amazing alternative, with a luxurious silky feel (so you can kiss confidently, oooh la la!)
Bring Your Skin Back to Life
In terms of hand and body cream, I love to carry a small travel size of the Lush Cosmetics Dream Cream. It's perfect for the hands and the entire body also helps to keep everything hydrated. It's not super oily and absorbs into the skin quickly.
And that's a wrap. You're all ready for the heat plus your skin won't turn into a crusty mess. You can thank me later. Enjoy the rays, but always stay protected beauties!
