3 Ways to Moisturize your Body (Better)

May 11, 2023

This post is in partnership with drenchbar. As always, all opinions remain honest and my own.

You know I’m always on the hunt for a clean alternative to products we use everyday. Add in the sustainable factor, and we’re really in business. drenchbar enters the room.

drenchbar® was founded on the simple belief that taking care of your skin doesn’t have to come at the expense of the environment or your own enjoyment. They set out to disrupt the cold, unpleasant process of putting on conventional lotion and give the world a better way to softer, healthier skin. They are reinventing body care. And they’re doing it in a way that is more sustainable, travel-friendly, skin-friendly, and fun.

I discovered drenchbar from a colleague in the beauty space, Rachel aka The Beauty Professor, specifically and I wanted to see if a bar could actually be as moisturizing and effective as traditional lotions. Spoiler alert: it can.

Having said that, I wanted to share 3 tips on how to moisturize the body more efficiently. Let’s go.

Exfoliate the skin.

All good things come to those who exfoliate. It’s a quote I just made up because it's true. The best way to get a good shave is to exfoliate before you shave. You know that smooth silky skin feeling you get when you run your hand down your leg? That feeling came from exfoliating before shaving, and then moisturizing after getting out of the shower. It’s truly the key to smooth skin because you want to get all the dead skin cells off first. This goes back to skincare basics, and a lot of the lessons from skin should be applied to the body too, given skin is the body’s biggest organ.

Apply moisturizer to slightly damp skin.

Yes, just like I recommend with your skincare. If you’ve been around these parts, or watched any of my content on TikTok or Insta, you know I always mention getting the skin slightly damp before serum application. Or really leaving is slightly damp after cleansing. Basically don’t wipe off all the moisture, or use a mist of some kind to get the skin damp again. The reason for this is because serums, lotions, etc absorb much more efficiently and effectively on slightly damp skin. You don’t want dripping wet, and you don’t want completely bone dry. This same rule can be applied for the entire body.

Use a body bar moisturizer.

It’s better for the environment, and it’s better for your skin. drenchbar is incredibly hydrating. After I jump out of the shower, I towel dry but I don’t get rid of all the liquid. I take the flat side of the bar, and run it all over the body. When it comes to application, I like to use circular motions (you can do back-and-forth motions too) so you get more of that lotioning effect. The bar can be used on dry skin too, but it glides down the skin more smoothly when there’s a little water post shower.

So the synopsis is I’ve been a fan of bars for a long time. A few years ago, I was testing shampoo and conditioner bars because I love the idea of a bar given it’s so much better for the environment and just takes up way less space. Trust me when I say, you don’t want to see all of the products lining the shower floor for us. The majority of beauty products, especially those used before, during or after a shower are 75%+ water, so to remove that element out of a product makes it far better for the environment (less being shipped), much easier to store and use and something you can actually travel with, with no issues.

What initially attracted me to drenchbar is the simple minimalistic packaging and the clean ingredients. I also truthfully hate the slimy feeling of body lotion all over my body, and it’s one of the reasons I’ve never been consistent with it. To feel sticky and wet from a moisturizer is just not a feeling I personally enjoy so I prefer to opt out of it.

drenchbar comes in unscented, as well as neroli + driftwood, which is my preference because it is a clean and dreamy scent. Nothing fragrance-y at all and very subtle all around.

I wanted to get a drenchbar into your hands, so they’ve kindly said yes to giving 10 of you a FREE bar with NO STRINGS ATTACHED! You don’t have to pay for shipping, you don’t have to purchase anything, you just get a free bar. I got you!
