How to Moisturize with Plain Jane CBD Body Butters

January 14, 2021

This post is in partnership with Plain Jane. All opinions and thoughts remain my own.

Over the last year and a half, I have literally tried to include products that have a little CBD in them because I love the soothing element of CBD. I’m talking shampoos, conditioners, oils, body lotions, hair scalp solutions, and so forth. You name it, I’ve probably tried to find a CBD alternative.

I’ll tell you now that nothing is quite as soothing as an incredibly luxe and healing body butter. With all the working out I’ve been doing, it has become a staple for me to use a CBD or more medicinal body butter on sore areas after workouts. While menthol works well, it is really overpowering in terms of the smell so it isn’t my favorite solution long-term (truthfully the smell gives me a bit of a headache) so I’ve resorted to other options. Plain Jane recently added body products to their list of incredible CBD options, and I was so excited to test it all out because it’s right down my alley.

Insert the full spectrum Plain Jane Body Butter, with 300-400 mg of CBD. It comes in three scents: lavender, mango and rose. I’ll give you a second to guess which one is my favorite of the 3 scents. Rose, duh.

When it comes to CBD you have a few options and I distinguish here that this body butter is full spectrum. So what does that mean?

Full-spectrum CBD comes from the hemp plant and contains other cannabinoids in addition to CBD. This includes terpenes, essential vitamins, proteins, fatty acids, as well as small amounts of THC and other naturally-occurring elements from the hemp plant. This is the best case scenario when it comes to CBD because you’re getting all of the ingredients from the hemp plant, including a little THC, which makes the end CBD product more effective overall. A little THC is ideal, as well as the fatty acids, vitamins, proteins, etc.

Formulation is luxurious and rich. The creaminess blends beautifully into the skin and doesn’t leave a greasy residue (that’s a no for me) but it also doesn’t need a lot of movement to blend into the skin. It absorbs quite well, so this is a body butter you could keep in your bag and use throughout the day for your hands.

When it comes to beauty products, you know I love to check out all the ingredients listed to ensure there aren’t a thousand but also that the ingredients are both necessary and non toxic. The ingredient breakdown of this body butter is simple and passes the vibe check.

Ingredients: Aloe Vera juice, Shea Butter, Avocado oil, Emulsifying wax, Vegetable Glycerin, Silver Dihydrogen Citrate, Organic Lavender oil/ Mango/ Rose.

One of the ingredients you may be wondering about is Silver Dihydrogen Citrate, since it may be the most unfamiliar to you. Its main goal is to fight bacteria. A lot of beauty and body products are made with a lot of water and as you can imagine, having a moist environment or being composed of a moist environment could cause moldiness long-term. Sometimes these ingredients mixed together can go bad without you even knowing (for example they may smell and look okay but they may actually have bacteria and fungus brewing inside.)

In case you’re unfamiliar with Vegetable Glycerin, it's commonly used in products for its hydration benefits. When used topically, it attracts and locks moisture in (similarly to how hyaluronic acid does.) The beauty of this ingredient is that it has a pH that closely matches that of our skin so it’s gentle and soft on the skin.

When it comes to the scents, I do love that it’s natural and not fragrance. You know we don’t like fragrance much around here, especially since there’s a lot of hidden ingredients underneath it typically (not always.) The good news is that the scent is very gentle and nothing overpowering or unpleasant.

This formulation gets a 10/10 when it comes to body butters. Lightweight whipped formulation that blends into the skin flawlessly, doesn’t leave a greasy residue, helps with the soreness post workout and really just soothes and calms me overall, it’s a win. For $25, it is a wonderful addition into your day to day body routine and well worth it.

These sound great! I’ve used a CBD cream before and loved how it felt! The rose scented one is probably one I’d like to try! Love anything rose!

Xo, Steph

I was about to say SOLD – until I saw that they include avocado oil in the butters. That’s too bad! I’m suuuuper allergic so that wouldn’t go over well haha. But I love the idea of a CBD body butter. It’s like a spa treatment and relaxation all wrapped into one great item!
