Keys Soulcare Body Care Products Review

July 5, 2021

When it comes to the celebrity beauty lines, I always go in quite skeptical. Why? Because to be honest, it usually doesn't meet the mark because it's typically a cheaper formulation with beautiful packaging, and a celebrity's name slapped on it. Bottom line, in a lot of cases the quality just is not there. Alicia Keys launched Keys Soulcare, which is a dermatologist developed, clean and cruelty-free body and skincare brand.

*This set of three (3) products was sent to me by the PR firm representing Keys Soulcare, but as always opinions are my own. Payment and free product is never going to sway my team or I to give a positive review.

A major thing about Keys Soulcare that had me pretty amazed from the get-go (and knowing this was going to be a unique brand in comparison to other celebrity lines) is that they formulate without a lot of toxic ingredients, but the most impressive fact I found was that they formulate without over 1,680 substances restricted by the FDA and European Union Cosmetics Regulation Guidelines. This means they are using the EU guidelines to make their products, even though this is a US based and US made brand. From someone like me who is constantly exposing the dirtiness of US made products, having Keys Soulcare follow"] the EU standards, which are far more strict than the US and the FDA, makes me respect the brand so much more because it's more expensive to do this but it is the right thing to do for us, the consumers.

Sacred Body Oil

This is a very luxurious body oil, and feels incredible on the skin. For anyone who doesn't know me, I am the oil queen. I have about 300 oils throughout our house because I find oils the most hydrating for skin (which is the biggest organ on your body.) Some oils are thin, drying, overly greasy, filled with chemicals that aren't necessary, overpriced, smell terrible, the list goes on and on.

I am really impressed by this formulation overall because it is oily, but in the best way possible. It absorbs into the skin beautifully, leaves it hydrated and feeling like you put oil on it (which I personally like versus just absorbing completely into the skin) and it doesn't ruin sheets if you lather on and then jump into bed. Such a win, am I right? Not to mention you can still feel the hydration the next morning.

This oil from the Keys Soulcare team is perfect for overnight hydration (a bit too oily for daytime in my opinion especially if temperatures are higher and your skin isn't bone dry) but with that it contains 8 different types of oil making it an extremely hydrating concoction for dry skin. I apply the drops directly to the skin because as you remove the pipette from the bottle, you want to be quick since the oil does drip out of the pipette. After getting this oil over the legs and arms, I will then follow with the Rich Nourishing Body Cream on super dry areas (elbows and knees.) Oil is a 5/5

Rich Nourishing Body Cream

The body cream is Aaron's favorite of the three (3) products that were sent to us to test. It's rich and again feels very luxurious, almost as if you're in a spa applying some body lotion after a really deep tissue massage and a little steam room session. It's thick enough that you can hold a scoop upside down and it won't fall off of your fingers (important details people!) It also absorbs well which is most important to me since I like the product to absorb into the skin efficiently and not linger or sit on the skin in a slimy manner. After some experience with the cream, we thought it would work well to soothe irritated skin so we tested it when Aaron's arm was irritated after gardening. A quick application of the cream really soothed what looked like a developing rash on his arm. Within 10 minutes he couldn't feel or see any irritation on his arm at all, and while that is not what the cream claims to do, it sure did wonders in that case.

The formulation uses a combination of oils that help it be so nourishing, so from our perspective it's a wonderful product to add into your daytime or nighttime body hydration routine. 4.5/5

Renewing Body + Hand Wash

Usually there's nothing too exciting about a hand or body wash, but I'll tell you right now this is a wonderful wash for the entire body. And it did get us excited. More often I use it for my hands because I find that generally most hand cleansers and hand soaps are way too drying. Due to my extraneous training schedule, the inside of my hands gets completely beat up (pull-ups, toes to bar, weights, dumbbell movement, etc. all completely rip my skin so cleansing is sometimes pretty painful for me.) With this hand wash, I find my hands are not as dry and sore so I have been leaning into this daily. As a body wash, it is also wonderful given it's going to cleanse the skin but with the inclusion of major hydrators (think Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter and Manuka Honey) it doesn't dry out the skin. In fact, it makes your skin clean without the squeaky clean dry as a bone feeling. IYKYK.

There is a scent to the wash which we enjoyed, but it led us to do so more research on how they developed such a great smell. It does contain fragrance but it appears to be a minimal amount given it's the last ingredient in the ingredients list (pro tip: when looking at ingredients the order of them is listed from highest to lowest amount.) Most of the smell comes from a combination of the Shea Butter, Cacao Butter and Manuka Honey. All of the body products do contain some fragrance but the Rich Nourishing Body Cream and the Sacred Body Oil have a cleaner light scent.

Overall it's a beautiful balance. 4/5

After experimenting with the brand for the last month+, we feel that we did indeed find a major winner. For many reasons, including the cleanliness of the brand and the attention to detail when it comes to the EU regulations, but mainly because of how hydrating and well-formulated the products really are. The inclusion of Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Manuka Honey and more, really took everything to the next level. Even with my skepticism going into the testing of these three (3) products, Keys Soulcare came out on top and we are excited to try more products, especially the skincare, because duhh. Who better to try it than your favorite skincare fanatic?

I can’t say that I’m too surprised by the quality of these products, considering how Alicia values skincare. I’ve always been in awe of how she goes to award shows without makeup! It’s so impressive but it’s a testament to how much effort she puts into her skin because it looks phenomenal. I’d definitely like to try these out and see what I think. It’s so cool that they use the EU guidelines!
